Mom and I did our best to keep going, to have courage. We prayed a lot. Sometimes I wondered if God ever listened. I prayed real hard for my dad to get better, but he died. I prayed that Anthony would be my best friend forever, but that was going to be harder now that we didn't live next door to each other. And I prayed that Mom would learn to cook something besides hot dogs and jelly sandwiches.

Children's Crown Award
Your school's vote counts!

Perch, Mrs. Sackets, and Crow's Nest is on the nominee list for the Children's Crown Award. Each year twenty books that "convey wholesome values, uplifting characters, and edifying themes that inspire children toward positive goals" are selected by a committee of readers from participating schools. Students in grades 4 and 5 read a selection of the books and vote on their favorite book in the spring.

Any school can participate! Schools must register by Oct. 1. By returning the registration form and the $29 registration fee, a school can have all its 4th/5th grade students participate in the program. Any school that registers by Sept 25 to Children's Crown and also faxes a copy of their registration form to Alma Little at 501.641.0777 will receive two FREE copies of Perch, Mrs. Sackets, and Crow's Nest (a $33.90 value).
